HOUSTON – (February 6, 2008) Commonwealth Engineering and Construction, LLC has continued its remarkable record of safe work hours in directing a series of upgrade projects at Calumet Lubricants’ Shreveport, Louisiana refinery, surpassing two million hours without a Lost Time Accident (LTA).

Commonwealth and facility owner Calumet have worked collaboratively to implement a strong safety culture throughout an aggressive schedule in which major improvements and additions have been incorporated into the operating facility. The project will significantly increase Calumet’s product output and mix. The effort has also helped solidify Commonwealth’s growing reputation for bringing a positive influence to the overall safety of locations where it provides its engineering and program management services.

The two-million-hour milestone comes just three months after the project team was recognized with awards from both the Safety Council of East Texas and American Society of Safety Engineers – East Texas Chapter for its safety achievements.

The zero LTA performance compares to the national average for LTAs on construction projects of 2.4 per 200,000 work hours. In addition, the project’s incident rate for total recordables and first aid cases continued to be well below the national average.
